Landslide Phenomena In Terrestrial And Marine Environment
Teacher: N.DEPOUNTIS, G.PAPATHEODOROU
Category: Elective
Semester: Eighth
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The course provides the theoretical and objective knowledge related to the identification, classification and determination of the basic parameters – characteristics of landslides (land and underwater) on soil and rock, natural and technical slopes, as well as their design methodologies. In addition, the protection-stabilization measures and the corresponding technical projects that contribute to the restoration of landslides are described in detail.
COURSE CONTENT
- Classification, causes, mechanism of landslides
- Systems for instrumental monitoring of ground movements (Inclinometers and Satellite Geodesy)
- Slope stability analysis, limit equilibrium methods
- Protection and Stabilization Measures: Design, Dimensioning, Construction
- Susceptibility and danger of landslides in the Greek area
- Submarine landslides: mechanisms of occurrence - causes, classification, identification - mapping methodologies
- Laboratory Exercises (a) determination of shear strength of soils (maximum – residual) and (b) of rock mass continuums.
- Tutorial Exercises in slope stability analysis using software
In the second semester of the study program of the Civil Engineering department, the course "Geology for Civil Engineers (CIV_2187A)", is taught by Mr. N. Depountis, I. Koukouvelas and D. Papoulis
